Madikeri Tour Packages – Explore the Scotland of India with Namma Trips
Madikeri, also known as Mercara, is the charming capital of Coorg (Kodagu district) and one of the most beautiful hill towns nestled in the Western Ghats. Located at an altitude of 1,452 meters above sea level, Madikeri captivates visitors with its lush green hills, mist-covered valleys, cascading waterfalls, dense forests, and vast tea, coffee, and spice plantations. This scenic town is truly a paradise for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike.
Often referred to as the “Scotland of India” and the “Kashmir of the South”, Madikeri’s breathtaking beauty and pleasant climate make it a must-visit hill station in Karnataka. Apart from its natural charm, Madikeri also serves as the district headquarters of Kodagu, housing important government offices and being the center for local trade and culture.
Historically, Madikeri was known as Muddu Raja Keri, meaning “the town of King Mudduraja,” after the Haleri ruler who governed Kodagu between 1633 and 1687. During the British era, it was renamed Mercara, and later restored to Madikeri by the Government of Mysore.
